So we experienced our first bout of croup this weekend, which if you don't know, is a very horrifying cough that hits small children in the middle of the night and causes them to bark and wheeze. Maddie came into our room in this state at about 1:30 am, totally panicked (for obvious reasons).
I knew immediately that it was the croup.
How? Because Kattie's son has had it, so I knew the signs. I even knew what to do. Despite the fact that I (sadly) have never met Kattie's children because they live 2000 miles away, I am pretty well-versed in their goings-on. I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have a friend like that, who despite living on the other side of the country, might as well live next door.
Matt, of course, thought I was crazy, or at the very least, sleeptalking when I tried to explain all this to him in a middle-of-the-night kind of way. But I was right, and the steamy shower worked, and he will acknowledge that my friendship with Kattie is not unlike having a really good personal consultant. Which is a good deal cheaper than therapy, and awfully useful in a pinch during the middle of the night.
Incidentally, Kattie is gearing up to be an Avon Walk For Life Superhero again, so if you are looking for a walker to sponsor this fall, I'll keep you posted with information on how to do that soon.
