Today is the 20th anniversary of our first date. We went to Larry and Jerry's in Cuyahoga Falls for dinner on a double-date; the other couple didn't last, and we've been together continuously ever since. When Matt dropped me off at my house that night, he asked me to go to Homecoming with him the week or two after with Mötley Crüe playing on the radio in the background—Dr. Feelgood, specifically. That's always been ridiculously hilarious to us that we both remember the background music (so romantic). A few years ago I made an entry into my friend Mi'Chelle's circle journal that documented my life's soundtrack. Dr. Feelgood is song #5 on the second disc. I only owned cassette tapes in 1989. Everything after Dr. Feelgood on my life's soundtrack—all 800+ jointly owned CDs and 14 gb worth of purchased iTunes music—includes Matt.
Here we are in all our 1989 glory, just before Homecoming at Stow HS. I was still 16, Matt was 17.
We had no idea what life had in store for us on this second date. Twenty years later we have more stories, adventures, joys, and happiness (not to mention little girls) than we ever could have imagined possible.
