Maddie, Gracie, and I were running some errands after I picked them up from gymastics today (Bridget is doing the summer program at her preschool on Thursdays) and on our way out of one of the stops (location withheld) we were beckoned over to a table by an elderly woman, a complete stranger. In my defense, I deem this location to be safe so my Mama Danger Radar might have been turned down a notch or two.
ELDERLY WOMAN: Would you care for an apple, sweeties?
ME: Wow, thanks! That is really nice of you!
ELDERLY WOMAN: Here, you pick some out (gesturing to the basket thing they were in). They're very good! Very fresh.
ME: (encouraging the girls to pick first and then picking my own) That's just what we needed in the middle of running our errands! Thanks again. It's not every day someone offers you an apple while you're out! [Ed. note: Yes, I really did say that.]
ELDERLY WOMAN: Of course, my pleasure. You have a great day now!
[on our way out of the unnamed location]
MADDIE: Nice, mama. Did you really just accept apples from an old lady that looks like the witch from Snow White? Are we supposed to eat them? Did you not learn anything about old hags and apples? [Ed. note: Yes, Maddie really did say that.]
To which I responded by nearly falling over in the parking lot from laughing.
Regular comediennes. : )
