These pretzels are quite possibly the very best thing I make. I can claim neither the recipe (which you can find here) nor the finding of the recipe (thanks Abby!! The next best thing to you bringing these to us is making them ourselves!) but I will provide a tip that I cannot emphasize enough: use a very large pot when boiling them, and be careful when you put the baking soda in. Don't say "ah, I can use this medium sized pot, it'll be fine..." or "hey, I have a big pot so I can just dump in the baking soda quickly and all at once, what could go wrong?"
Have you ever conducted or assisted with the volcano experiment that includes baking soda? THIS WILL HAPPEN ON YOUR STOVETOP. It isn't dangerous (unless you boil over so much baking soda-water that you put your gas flame out and don't realize it immediately)(ahem) but it is disastrously messy. Like, plan on the clean up taking two times as long as it did to shape and bake them in the first place.
But even if that happens 75% of the time (ahem)(ahem) it's still worth it.
