Welcome to Unfinished, my blog project for 2015! You can read all the posts here to catch up, and please feel welcome to join in at any point!
I almost feel guilty counting what I accomplished this month because it was so ridiculously easy, but it definitely fit the bill: something I should have done long ago and yet... did not. Some background:
Around 1998 or so, I decided I'd had it with my disorganized loose recipes and bought myself a cute (at the time—now I'm not as sure) recipe binder where you copy over all the loose recipes and become magically organized. I did this with a vengeance one summer, and tossed all the clutter. Except a couple of years later I realized that I shouldn't have tossed all the "clutter" because a lot of the recipes I tossed were actually handwritten by other people, and that put an end to my organizing of recipes (even the print-out ones). Because I am all or nothing like that.
Fast forward 17 years and this is what my loose recipes look like:
You might think that I tackled this entire stack as my project this month, and really, that's what I should have done! But instead, I finally picked out the ones I am always digging for at Thanksgiving and made myself a little binder of Thanksgiving recipes:
No word on when I'll get to the rest of the stack. Heh.
It's a little ironic, because save for 2006 when we went to my cousin Kevin's house in California, we've hosted Thanksgiving every single year since 2002 until THIS year, when we graciously let the Karahalises feed us (haha). But usually we're the Thanksgiving hosters, so it will be nice not to have to go digging for what we make every single year. The only thing missing is the turkey recipe, and that's because Matt likes to experiment with his turkey preparation methods. He does turkey, I do sides. It's the perfect arrangement.
Bonus: here we all are on Thanksgiving 2015—I share because I store much of my memory here on this blog, and I couldn't for the life of me remember what we did in 2009 until I looked it up here last week! I don't know what I'm doing with my foot, either.
Are you still finishing things? Only a month left on the formal Unfinished plan!
