Wyoming Reads | 5.18.10

Today was Wyoming Reads Day at the library, and 1500 first graders (plus Maddie, she is in a 1-2 split class so lucked out and got to come too) came to the library to celebrate. I was invited to read to two groups of kids so Bridget and I headed over after dropping off Gracie at school. It was really fun—it's been a long time since I've had the opportunity to do a storytime. It might seem like 1500 six- and seven-year olds at the library would be pandemonium, but not at all—it was a well-oiled machine. Each student received a bag with a hard-cover book from the Wyoming Reads list and a few other miscellaneous things, plus an invitation to come back and sign up for the summer reading program.

I had to giggle at the poor sucker on the right side of this photo sitting at a table with his arms up by his ears—he obviously didn't notice the signs that have been posted at the library in the last two weeks that warned him this day was coming. Heh.

I took my annual May nap a little early, because all that preschool picture taking and first-grader reading wore me out. After my nap the day deteriorated quite a bit when the tornado warning system started wailing, but that's a story for somewhere else.
