As I went walking around looking at everything, I saw this nice man who looked like he was about to die from the cold. He kept saying "this is very cold for me." Everyone milling around seemed in exceptionally friendly spirits, so I struck up a conversation with him and learned he was a journalist from Kenya, in to cover the Inauguration for his radio station back home. After I suggested he try to buy foot and hand warmers and perhaps wear his scarf over his face a little bit more, I told him it was expected to be in the high 20s/low 30s on Inauguration Day, which makes a big difference to me but for him it was just probably insignificant degrees between freezing to death in 11ยบ weather or freezing to death in the high 20s/low 30s.
We had a very nice conversation, and then he asked me some questions about where I would be and what I thought about it all and recorded them on his portable...recording device? and got my email address before we went our separate ways. He emailed on Saturday to get my contact information, and I sent him some of the pictures I took on Friday of the Capitol Building plus this one. Turns out he's the station manager of Metro FM, a radio station owned by the Kenya Broadcasting Company. I love Google.
